Over 100 Robots Compete in Battles at Klaipeda University

On 7 March, the Robotics Centre of Klaipeda University (KU) hosted the international robot combat competition “International Klaipeda Robot Battles 2026” for the third time, bringing together technology enthusiasts from Lithuania and abroad. The event attracted a large number of participants and spectators – this year more than 100 robot builders took part in the competition.

The event, which gathered robotics enthusiasts, became a platform for creators to test their self-built robots in real combat situations and share experiences with like-minded participants. Teams from several Lithuanian cities – Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Klaipėda and Kretinga – participated in the competition, alongside guests from Poland, Latvia and Romania.

“International Klaipeda Robot Battles” aims to encourage young people and technology enthusiasts to develop an interest in robotics, engineering and the creative application of technology. During the event, participants had the opportunity to test their robots’ engineering solutions, design and control systems, as well as evaluate how their mechanisms perform under the intense conditions of competition.

Small, Fast and Powerful – Robot Combat Categories

Robots competed in seven different categories: Antweight, Antweight Beginners, Antweight Pro, Mega Sumo, Mini Sumo, Mini Sumo RC and Mini Sumo (student).

Robots in the Antweight category are small but highly dynamic – they are built with various weapons and controlled remotely, with the aim of pushing or disabling their opponent. Meanwhile, Sumo-type robots follow the principle of sumo wrestling – their objective is to push the opponent out of the ring. These robots may be fully autonomous or remotely controlled, as in the Mini Sumo RC category.

Particular attention was drawn to the Mega Sumo category – the largest and most powerful robots, whose battles are organised only in Klaipėda. For this reason, the category attracts not only local participants but also international robot builders.

In each competition category, the creators of the three best-performing robots were awarded prizes. Winners and runners-up received awards from Klaipeda University and the event’s sponsors.

According to the organisers, the steadily growing number of participants and spectators each year shows that robotics competitions in Klaipėda are becoming an increasingly important event for the technology community, encouraging young people to take an interest in engineering, programming and innovation.
