KU lads football team finished 6th this year, with their only win against VMU football players.
Chess player Marija Šibajeva won 5th place in the BLITZ chess tournament, and in the Rapid chess tournament she won vice-champion’s title!
KU team even had 3 debutants in individual sports – two in power triathlon and one in track and field athletics. Edvinas Norvaiša, a first-year athlete, achieved the best result of his career in the long jump – 7.02 m! Only 4 cm behind the bronze medalist, Edvinas finished in 4th place. The power triathlon team surprised with medals – Vadym Derkach took bronze and Klaidas Škikūnas took silver!
In the group tournament, both women’s beach volleyball pairs had one win and one loss. Augustė Petrauskaitė and Karina Simonaitytė defeated the University of Tartu (Estonia) pair 2:0, while Ilina Frolova and Deimantė Kasperavičiūtė defeated Mykolas Romeris University girls. The first pair lost 1:2 to VU volleyball players, while the second pair from KU – to the Polish team. In the first round after the group tournament all the teams suffered defeats and had to end their battles in the Games.
Martynas Staponas and Nojus Maksvytis, the first pair of men’s beach volleyball, took 3rd place in their group, while the second duo Albredas Vidzikauskas and Tomas Petrošius took 4th place in their group.
Table tennis representative Dovilė Račkauskaitė, who did not lose to any of the other players in her group, shared 5th-8th place.
The most surprising KU boys basketball team generated a lot of emotions, intrigue, and excitement. After two wins on the first day of the Games and the only defeat during the whole Games, on the second day in the playoffs they confidently beat KTU team with the score of 73:46, and later on, after facing MRU basketball players in the semi-finals, they won a trip to the finals!
The final match against VMU 2 men’s team bustled with tension and emotions. The tension that prevailed until the end of the third quarter finally subsided in the fourth quarter – Klaipėda University men’s basketball team defeated the multiple winners of the SELL Games and the winners of the Lithuanian Students Basketball League (LSBL) championship with a powerful score – 90:66. KU team was led by Nojus Mineikis, who scored 36 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and achieved performance index rating of 43.
