Klaipėda University Rector Elected

"I am pleased to inform the community of Klaipėda University and the city that, in the meeting of the Council of Klaipėda University, prof. dr. Artūras Razbadauskas was elected as the Rector of the University",  following the closed meeting of the Council, Arnoldas Šileika, Chair of the  Klaipėda University Council, CEO at Western Shipyard BLRT group, shared this great news with media representatitives. According to him, all nine members of the Council unanimously approved the candidacy of prof. dr. Artūras Razbadauskas for the position of KU Rector. 

When asked what his priorities would be for the second term of office, prof. dr. Artūras Razbadauskas emphasised that the direction that had been followed so far would be maintained.

The priority remains the same: the University is to attract increasingly more students and new residents to Klaipėda who can help it to grow and thrive. Very often, the journey of those who come to live in Klaipėda starts from the academic world. The other objectives also remain the same: to boost the research potential, competitiveness on a global level, and to develop the EU-CONEXUS partnership in the European University Alliance",  said the elected KU Rector.

In his comment on the new team, prof. Artūras Razbadauskas said that, in his opinion, changes are necessary and foreseeable.

As a reminder, two candidates' documents were received on 10 November 2023, the deadline for expressing interest in the election of the Rector of KU. After reviewing the content of their documents, the members of the Rector's Election Commission registered prof. habil. dr. Eimutis Juzeliūnas, chief researcher of the State Research Institute Centre for Physical Sciences and Technology, and prof. dr. Arturas Razbadauskas, the current Rector of KU, as candidates for the post of KU Rector.

Four days after the submission of the documents, prof. dr. habil. Eimutis Juzeliūnas informed the Secretariat of the Rector's Election Commission in writing that he was withdrawing his candidature and would not participate in the competition, leaving one registered candidate, prof. Artūras Razbadauskas.

The first term of office of prof. dr. Artūras Razbadauskas as Rector of KU expires on 4 March 2024. His second term of office will last 5 years.
