Klaipeda University and Microsoft to join hands for Technology & Security Conference

On November 13-14, Klaipeda University (KU) hosts the Technology & Security Conference organized by the University and Microsoft. This is the first time that an event of such format, which brings together IT managers from all higher education institutions of the Baltic countries and Microsoft professionals, has been held in Lithuania. The conference of unique format focuses on IT security, artificial intelligence, and the application of state-of-the-art technologies in higher education institutions. Representatives of universities and several colleges in the Baltics share their experiences, while Microsoft experts present recent AI developments for the education sector.

“The participating universities are leading in certain areas. For example, the University of Tartu is advanced in the field of artificial intelligence, VILNIUS TECH – in cyber security and cybersecurity risk management. Microsoft representatives share their insights on the best technological solutions for the education sector. This is an event of exceptional value for higher education institutions in the Baltic States. High-end Microsoft experts from all over Europe came to Klaipėda. A total of 16 presentations and discussions are planned for the two-day event. This should be a boost for closer cooperation in the future”, says Vytis Radvila, Head of IT Department at Klaipeda University.

The conference focuses on two main themes – artificial intelligence (AI) and cyber security. Lenka Axlerova, Microsoft Director of Education Industry for Central Europe, says that AI is having a profound impact on every aspect of our society. Education is at the forefront of this transformation equipping people with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in an AI-driven world.

L. Axlerova also shares her knowledge on why cyber security is crucial for all educational institutions today: “The annual cost of cybercrime is skyrocketing to $10 trillion by 2025, and the education and research sector is the second most affected by cyber threats and attacks after IT. Educational institutions are often used as testing grounds before launching attacks and executing key targets”.

The conference also presented Klaipeda University’s IT strategy and plans for the next 5 years, which aim to ensure cyber security and at the same time to find solutions to ensure that the use of technology remains user-friendly. The goals were shared by V. Radvila, Head of IT Department at KU, in his presentation “Klaipeda University: Top of Mind Priorities for the Next 5 Years”.

“We see Klaipeda University’s ambitious goals in the field of digital transformation, so I think this is a great place for everyone to come together and share best practices and success stories,” says L. Axlerova, highlighting Klaipeda University’s role in organizing this unique event. “We hope that conferences of such format – integrating the IT sector of higher education institutions in the Baltic States, will become a tradition,” she added.
